Subconsciously, we all make decisions about whether a product is quality or junk. Sometimes, there is an obvious reason for that split. But many times it comes down to “how much thought was put into this product” (or as my wife puts it, “was this made with love?”).

These days, anyone can crank out software, but taking the time to refine it, hone it, and add a bit of yourself into it requires real skill. It’s bordering on art.

MacOS used to care about these things, and one of the many small unique details was the quality mouse cursors that MacOS used. For hyperlinks, the generic hand cursor was actually a small white glove (indicating that you’ve been given “white glove” treatment by the entire Apple dev team).

The latest version of MacOS replaced these with some stupid generic cursors that look like they came from a bad Deviantart theme.

The classic cursor hand looked like this:

But the latest version of MacOS changed it to this:

This is the most egregious change, but there were others such as the resize arrows, and even the sharpness of the standard cursor was reduced.

But, never fear! You can get the old cursors back. I’ve written a tiny little utility that will load the classic cursors and keep them until a log out or restart. If you want them permanently, there’s also another LaunchCTL daemon included that will just execute the patch at boot automatically.

Find it here: https://github.com/IANatCAMBIO/Classic_Cursor

Don’t worry. It’s well tested, no malware, and open source.

Contrary to what many believe, little details matter.
